Sales return

In Arabic مرتجع المبيعات

A sales return is goods a customer sends back after a sale, recorded so the stock is received back and the customer is refunded, credited or sent a replacement.

In plain words

Goods come back for many reasons: damage, expiry, a wrong item, or a shop that could not sell them. A return records what came back, why, and what the customer gets for it, so stock and the customer’s balance both stay right.

A return is best raised against the original invoice and credited at the price and discount charged then. It is usually approved before goods are accepted, and damaged or expired stock is received apart from saleable stock.

The common mistake is crediting at today’s price instead of the invoiced one. If prices have changed, the customer is credited more or less than they paid, and the account never quite clears.
