Cycle count

In Arabic الجرد الدوري

A stock count that covers a small part of the warehouse at a time, on a rolling schedule, instead of one full count of everything.

In plain words

Instead of closing the warehouse for a full stocktake, you count a few bins or items every day or week. Over a cycle every location gets counted, and fast-moving or valuable items can be counted more often.

The count is compared with what the books say. The difference posts as an adjustment at cost, a shortfall as a loss and a surplus as a gain, usually after someone reviews it.

The common mistake is counting while goods are still moving in and out of the same bin, so the shelf is compared with a book figure from a different moment.
