A held sale is a partly rung-up cart that a cashier sets aside without completing, so the till is free for the next customer until the cart is recalled.
A customer remembers one more item, or goes to fetch a card. Without a hold, the cashier either waits while the queue builds or voids the cart and rings it all up again. Holding the cart keeps the queue moving and the work already done.
The cart is saved with a note or the customer’s name and put on a held list. When the customer is back, the cashier recalls it, adds what is missing and takes payment. Until then nothing has been sold: no payment, no receipt.
The common mistake is leaving held carts open forever. Abandoned carts pile up, the list becomes useless, and a cart recalled hours later may carry old prices. Clear held carts at the end of each shift.
In Axon Suite
At the Axon Suite till a cashier holds the cart with an optional note and recalls it from the register’s held list on the same open shift. Stock is not reserved while it waits, and carts still held at the close are cleared.
A customer has gone back for one more item. The cashier holds the cart with a note, serves the next person, and recalls it from the register’s held list when they return.
