How a held cart moves

  1. Hold

The cashier holds the cart on the register’s open shift, with an optional note and the customer named, if any.

  2. Serve the next customer

The till is clear for the next sale straight away.

  3. Recall

Pick the cart from the held list. It loads onto the till and leaves the list, so it cannot be rung up twice.

Details that matter

Limits checked on hold

A discount over the cashier’s limit is refused when the cart is held, not just at checkout.

One cart at a time on the till

Recall waits until the till’s own cart is empty, so nothing on screen is overwritten.

Ends with the shift

Carts still held when the shift closes are cleared with it.

Questions buyers ask

Is stock reserved while a cart is held?

No. A held cart keeps the items and quantities only. Stock and the ledger move when the sale is checked out.

Can another cashier recall it?

Yes, a cashier assigned to the same register can recall it from that register’s held list.

Can I hold without an open shift?

No. A cart is held on the register’s open shift, so a shift must be open first.
