Store credit keeps the money in the relationship: the customer is made whole and the seller keeps the cash. For distributors, it suits regular customers who will order again within days.
The return is credited at the price the customer paid, through a credit note. Instead of a refund, the credit stays on the customer’s account and is set against a later invoice.
The common mistake is tracking store credit outside the books, on a note or in a spreadsheet. It is money the business owes, so it belongs on the customer’s account where statements and the aging can see it.
In Axon Suite
In Axon Suite, once a return’s goods are received you can settle it with store credit instead of a refund, and it posts a credit note against the original invoice.
Raise the return against the original invoice, approve it and receive the goods back into the warehouse. Then decide what the customer gets: a refund, store credit or a replacement. A refund or store credit posts a credit note against that invoice.
