In Arabic الشركة التابعة
A subsidiary is a company owned or controlled by another company, the parent, while remaining a separate legal entity with its own books and tax registration.
Distributors open subsidiaries to enter a new country, separate a business line or keep a branch’s risk apart. Each one has its own registration, tax number and often its own currency, so each needs its own books, documents and number sequences.
In an ERP a subsidiary is usually set up once with the facts that do not change: its country, its currency and its fiscal year. Users are then tied to the subsidiaries they work in, so a clerk in one company does not see another’s customers.
The common mistake is running two legal companies as one, with a branch flag on each document. Invoices then share a number sequence, tax filings have to be pulled apart by hand, and the books of neither company stand on their own.
