Details that matter

A trial balance with turnover

Opening balance, debits, credits and closing balance for each account, with a check that debits equal credits.

Gross profit and net income

Revenue, cost of goods sold and expenses, with gross profit and net income beneath. The year-end closing journal is left out, so a closed year still reads.

Earnings carried to equity

The balance sheet shows the period’s earnings inside equity, so it balances before the year is closed.
