Buy X get Y is a promotion in which a customer who buys a set quantity of one item receives a quantity of the same or another item free.
Free-goods offers such as “buy 10, get 1 free” are common in distribution because they move volume without cutting the visible price. The customer gets more stock for the same money, and the list price stays intact.
The free quantity is usually earned in whole multiples: buy 20 on a buy-10 offer and you get 2 free, buy 19 and you get 1. The free goods should still appear on the invoice, at a zero price, so stock and margin both reconcile.
The common mistake is handing over free goods off the invoice. The van or warehouse then comes up short with nothing to explain it, and nobody can say what the promotion actually cost.
In Axon Suite
In Axon Suite a buy-and-get-free promotion adds the free goods in multiples as a zero-price line named after the promotion, in the office, the rep app and the customer app.
Set a promotion once: buy a quantity of one item and get a quantity of another free. Every qualifying cart gets its free goods as a zero-price line named after the promotion, in the office, the rep app and the customer app, and the free quantity grows with each full multiple.
