Order to cash is the full sales cycle, from receiving a customer’s order through shipping, invoicing and collecting payment, until the money is in the bank.
Order to cash covers every step a sale walks through: the order, the credit check, picking and shipping, the invoice and the collection. Looking at it as one chain, rather than as separate departments, shows where orders stall and where cash arrives late.
A typical cycle confirms the order, ships what is in stock, invoices what shipped and then follows the open invoice until it is paid. Each step should start from the one before it, so quantities and prices are carried forward rather than typed again.
The common mistake is measuring the cycle only up to the invoice. A sale that is shipped and billed but not collected is still money outside the business, and it is the slowest part of the chain to notice.
In Axon Suite
In Axon Suite you quote the customer, turn the quote into an order, ship what is in stock and invoice what shipped. The order closes itself once it is shipped and invoiced in full.
A shipment opens from the order with everything still to go, and you send the lines and quantities that are ready. The order shows as partially shipped, each invoice is drawn from goods that have left, and the order closes itself once it is shipped and billed in full.
