SKU

In Arabic رمز الصنف (SKU)

Stock keeping unit: an internal code that identifies one distinct product a business stocks, down to its size, flavour or pack.

In plain words

Every variant you count separately gets its own SKU: water in 330 ml and 500 ml bottles is two SKUs, and so are two flavours of the same juice. Reports, price lists and stock levels all hang off it.

An SKU is yours, while a barcode usually comes from the manufacturer. One SKU can carry several barcodes, such as one for the piece and one for the carton.

The common mistake is creating a new SKU for every pack size of the same goods, then struggling to add up stock across them. Units of measure handle pack sizes better.
