A goods issue is the posted record of stock leaving a warehouse, for a sale or another purpose, which lowers the stock balance and values what left at cost.
Until goods are issued, the system still counts them as on the shelf. Posting the issue is what takes them out of stock, at the moment they physically leave, so the warehouse balance matches what is really there.
For a sale, the issue is usually the shipment or delivery against the order. It records the items, quantities and lots that left and values them at cost. Dispatch is a different step: it decides who carries the goods, not when they leave the books.
The common mistake is issuing goods on paper and posting the movement later. In between, the same stock looks available to the next order, and two customers are promised the same cartons.
In Axon Suite
In Axon Suite you pack a shipment and post it with its carrier and tracking number, and posting takes the goods out of stock. Each order line’s shipped quantity is counted only from posted shipments.
A shipment opens from the order with everything still to go, and you send the lines and quantities that are ready. The order shows as partially shipped, each invoice is drawn from goods that have left, and the order closes itself once it is shipped and billed in full.
