An order is only half done when it is accepted. Dispatch decides who takes it, from which stock, and when it leaves. Done well, customers get what they ordered on time and drivers are not sent across town for one drop.
Most businesses run dispatch from a board that shows orders waiting, orders assigned to each driver, and orders out for delivery or delivered. Orders are usually grouped by area so each driver covers a sensible patch.
The common mistakes are orders that sit unassigned because everyone thought someone else had them, and the same order taken by two drivers. One owner per order, visible to all, prevents both.
