Credit control

In Arabic مراقبة الائتمان

The policies and daily work that decide which customers get credit, how much and on what terms, and how unpaid invoices are followed up.

In plain words

A distributor selling on terms is lending money to every customer it ships to. Credit control keeps that lending within what the business can carry, and turns invoices into cash before they turn into bad debts.

It sets each customer’s limit and terms, checks new orders against what is already owed, holds orders over the limit for approval, and works the aging, calling customers as invoices fall past due.

The common mistake is checking credit only when an account is opened. Customers’ circumstances change, and a limit nobody reviews is soon too high for some and too low for others.

Worked exampleChecking a new order
Credit limit
SAR 40,000
Invoiced, not yet paid
SAR 33,500
New order
SAR 5,000
After this order, within the limit
SAR 38,500
