An overdue invoice is one that is still unpaid, in whole or in part, after the due date set by the payment terms agreed with the customer.
An invoice is not late because it is old; it is late because it has passed its due date. The longer it stays overdue, the less likely it is to be paid in full, so overdue invoices are the first list a credit controller works from each morning.
The due date comes from the payment terms: an invoice dated 2026-03-01 on net 30 falls due on 2026-03-31 and is overdue from the next day. Aging reports group overdue amounts by how many days past due they are.
The common mistake is counting from the invoice date. A 45-day-old invoice on 60-day terms is not overdue at all, while a 20-day-old one on 15-day terms already is, and chasing the wrong one costs goodwill.
In Axon Suite
In Axon Suite payment terms set each invoice’s due date, and the aging puts what is still owed on each invoice into current, 1–30, 31–60 or over 60 days past due.
Aging buckets every open invoice and bill by its due date. A statement gives one customer or vendor their running balance with the same aging beneath it, printed in Arabic or English.
