Last-mile delivery is the final stage of getting an order to the customer, from the local warehouse or vehicle to the customer’s door.
The last mile is usually the most expensive part of delivery per order. A truck from the factory carries one large load to one address; the last mile splits that into many small drops, each with its own stop, wait and hand-over.
Distributors run it with their own drivers or reps, or hand it to a courier. Orders are grouped by area, assigned to whoever covers it, and marked out for delivery so the customer knows they are coming. What arrives, in full or in part, is what gets invoiced.
The common mistake is invoicing the order rather than the delivery. When a shop takes six of ten cartons and the invoice says ten, the difference turns into a dispute at collection time. Bill what was delivered, and keep the rest owed on the order.
In Axon Suite
In Axon Suite your own rep marks the order out for delivery, delivers everything still owed or line by line, and invoices what was delivered. The customer is notified and can see the rep on a map.
From the order in the rep app, the rep marks it out for delivery, delivers everything still owed or enters each line’s delivered quantity, then invoices what was delivered. The stock leaves, the invoice posts, and the rest can go out on another trip.
